Fall is officially here but the temperatures in your state may not agree. This blog is dedicated to looks called “fall transitional” which include looks with light layers perfect for warmer fall days, and hey! The added bonus is you can get extra wear out of your summer clothes!
The first look is one that I rocked in Bristol. I had this fabulous, bright, tomato red, sleeveless peplum top that was adorable but very summery. Since it was a night race and nearing fall, I wanted to dress up the look differently from what I would have done in the summer. In the summer, I would have paired it with a light pair of jeans, cuffed, and a cute pair of open-toe heels or wedges. However, for the “fall transitional” look, I took this bright top and paired it with a pair of dark green, edgy jeans and then added a nude, pointy toe pump. The nude shoe is a must when wearing two contrasting colors.
Another look I put together involved a very bright yellow blazer I bought in the spring. Earlier in the year, I wore it with a white top underneath and denim shorts. To take it into a “fall transitional” look, I paired it with a fitted black tank top underneath, light-colored ripped up denim jeans rolled up past the ankle, edgy black open-toe shoes and a big statement necklace. Even though the blazer is bright, the rest of the palate has an edgy, cool vibe so it makes it more fall-like.
Another one of my “fall transitional” go-to looks is taking a summer dress and pairing it with a chunky or longer cardigan, belting it and adding riding boots or ankle boots. This is a great way to get more wear out of your little summer dresses while adding a little warmth for the cooler temperatures. Just make sure the cardigan isn’t so long that it looks like you don’t have a dress on from behind and also keep the cardigan unbuttoned. Faux leather jackets or denim shirts are also great summer dress toppers! If the temperatures drop, be sure to put a pair of tights on with your look.
Below I have paired a few looks for you like the one I described above using summer dresses.

Love your denim dress from summer? Take it into fall by adding a cute plaid shirt underneath. Make sure to let the sleeves stick out of the bottom and roll them up and around the denim sleeves. Also open a few of the top buttons on the denim dress and plaid shirt to create a V-neck and add a big statement necklace for a touch of glam. Add a belt to define your waist. I also added dressy booties to tie in the necklace and make it look less western.

We all have maxi dresses from the summer that we still want to wear! It’s easy to take these into fall! The simplest way is to pair it with a little faux leather jacket and add a fun scarf. However, another way I love is to make it into a skirt by layering shirts over the top and belting it for a pulled together, waist-defining look. With a big statement belt, I like to do earrings instead of a necklace because I think the necklace and belt would compete too much with one another.
